Standard 1

Standard 1: Demonstrates ability to enhance academic performance and support for implementation of the school district's student achievement goals.

a. Provides multiple forms of evidence of student learning and growth to students, families, and staff.
Description of Artifact: Parent e-mail
Data Source: Counselor
Interpretation: I frequently use e-mail as a way of communicating with parents, especially parents of students I work with on an individual level. This artifact indicates how I shared with a parent their child's successes and increase in positive behavior.
b. Implements strategies supporting student, building, and district goals.
 Description of Artifact: Lesson plan
Data Source: Counselor
Interpretation: This artifact demonstrates how I support building goals, promoting the messages of Bondurant's BEST through my classroom guidance lessons.
c. Uses student performance data as a guide for decision making.
Description of Artifact: HEART Individual Student Referral Report
Data Source: Counselor/HEART database
Interpretation: When working with individual students, both in the classroom and in my office, I frequently use performance data to make decisions about their individual needs. The number and content of behavior referrals a student has in our HEART database affects the manner in which I instruct and/or counsel them.

d. Accepts and demonstrates responsibility for creating a classroom culture that supports the learning of every student.
Description of Artifact: Displays of student work/classroom projects
Data Source: Counselor/Students
Interpretation: I do guidance lessons in every K-1 classroom once a week. Every 4-6 weeks, I display student work in classrooms, the 1st grade POD, or in the hallways to further illustrate our building's involvement with and commitment to the school counseling program/values of Bondurant's BEST. These displays illustrate the responsibility I am taking in creating a classroom (and building-wide) culture that supports every student's learning.

e. Creates an environment of mutual respect, rapport, and fairness.
Description of Artifact: My office/front hallway bulletin board
Data Source: Counselor
Interpretation: Both in the classroom and my counseling office, I work hard to create an environment that embraces and encourages the use of good character and making choices that reflect Bondurant's BEST. Since I do not have my own classroom to work with, I try to influence the whole building by hanging Bondurant's BEST-related artwork and inspirational quotes. In addition, my office is a colorful, non-threatening environment in which students can come in to and expect to feel relaxed, comfortable, and respected.

f. Participates in and contributes to a school culture that focuses on improved student learning.
Description of Artifact: SST Team (SST plan)
Data Source: Counselor
Interpretation: I contribute to Anderson Elementary's commitment to improved student learning through my membership on the SST team. This team meets once a month to discuss students on or in need of a SST plan with myself, the other school counselor, and the at-risk coordinator taking leadership roles.

g. Communicates with students, families, colleagues, and communities effectively and accurately.
Description of Artifact: Anderson Elementary Counselor Connection monthly newsletters
Data Source: Counselor
Interpretation: On a monthly basis, I communicate with families, colleagues, and community members through my Anderson Elementary Counselor Connection newsletters. Through the information in these newsletters, I am hoping to provide a message that is easy to understand, encourage parental support of their child, and explain ways to enhance student’s academic and social learning. (Click here for copy of e-mail sent out to all Anderson Elementary parents on a monthly basis.)
